What is the obsession with small dog clothes? It is very rare these days to see a small dog that is not wearing some kind of clothing or hair bow or at least a rhinestone charm attached to her collar. Of course, there is always the theory of the functionality of clothing dogs. However, most pet owners who participate in this extravagant hobby do so for the fun of it. We love to see the new styles coming out each season or we can’t wait to get the newest and trendiest shoes. When we have children, attention tends to dog clothing and shoes turn to them. We spend our time and money making sure they are in the latest fashions and have the coolest trends. It sure is cool, but our kids need to wear clothes and shoes, right? So why do we dress up dogs when we don’t have to?
There are so many different reasons why people dress up their little puppies. As stated above, there is no question that there are functional reasons for dressing our dogs in extreme weather conditions or if they are a hairless breed in need of protection. Usually, that is not why we do it. There are four main reasons why people dress their dogs in small dog clothes. Some people may argue for these reasons, but they are not negative at all.
Reason One: The most obvious reason is that they are so cute! There is no doubt that a puppy in a cute dress or sweater is adorable.
Second reason: we dress them to attract attention. This is not intended to be negative. Dressing up our dog when we take him out for a walk in the park can be a great conversation to start with. Anyway, we love it when people say our kids are adorable. So why don’t we just love it when people compliment our dog?
Reason three: our dog can sometimes be an accessory to what we wear. Many socialites you see taking their dogs with them will change their dog’s collar, clothing, shoes, hair accessories, or carrying case to match what they are wearing.
Reason Four: Expression! We can tell a lot about ourselves by what we wear. This also translates to a world of dogs. We can express our own personality or the personality of our dog through the dog clothes that we choose for our furry friends.
